Terms of service

Last updated October 3, 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and Lost Pet Network for using lostpet.network, the tag links at imlo.st, and anything else we provide (together, "the service"). By using the service you agree to them.

The short version

  • Lost Pet Network gives your pet one page that you share yourself. It cannot promise that a pet is found.
  • What you post stays yours. You let us display it so the service can work.
  • Be truthful and be kind. No false reports, harassment, scraping, or using sightings to harm an animal or a person.
  • We never post to social media for you.
  • Rewards are between you and the other person.
  • The service is provided as is, and our liability is limited.

What the service is

Lost Pet Network lets you create a permanent page for a pet. If the pet goes missing, it becomes a public lost pet page with photos, a general last-seen area, sightings, a printable flyer and a status you update in one place. People who see or find the pet can report a sighting or message you through a relay. Creating a page is free.

What the service is not

  • Not a guarantee. We cannot promise that any pet will be found, that any sighting is accurate, or that any message is genuine.
  • Not identification. Suggested matches between lost and found reports are for a person to check. They do not confirm that two animals are the same and are not proof of ownership.
  • Not an emergency, veterinary or animal control service. If an animal or a person is in danger, contact the appropriate local service.
  • Not a party to your dealings with others. Meetings, handovers and payments between owners and finders are between those people. Read our guide to lost pet scams before you send anyone money.

Your account

You must be at least 13 years old to use the service, and old enough to enter into a contract where you live or have a parent or guardian's permission. Give accurate information and keep your sign-in details secure. You are responsible for what happens under your account.

Your content

You keep ownership of the photos, descriptions, sightings and messages you submit. You give Lost Pet Network a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, adapt, display and distribute that content only as needed to operate the service, such as showing a pet page, producing flyers and delivering relay messages. We do not sell your content or use it for advertising. The license ends when the content is deleted, except for sightings contributed to another person's pet page, which are kept in anonymized form as described in the privacy policy.

You promise that you have the right to share what you post, that it is accurate to the best of your knowledge, and that it does not break the law or anyone else's rights. Public pet pages are meant to be shared, and we cannot recall copies that other people make.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Submit a false lost report, found report or sighting, or claim a pet that is not yours.
  • Harass, threaten, stalk or deceive anyone, including through the relay.
  • Use sightings, locations or any other information from the service to harm, take or endanger an animal or a person.
  • Demand payment for the return of a pet, or use the service to run a scam.
  • Scrape or bulk-collect pages or data, or try to enumerate pet pages or tag codes. Normal search engine indexing of public lost pet pages is allowed.
  • Try to uncover an exact location or another person's contact details.
  • Send spam or automated submissions, bypass limits or security, or access data that is not yours.

We may hide or remove content, close relay conversations, deactivate tag codes, and suspend accounts that break these rules.

Sharing and social media

Lost Pet Network never posts, comments or messages on Facebook, Nextdoor, Instagram or any other platform on your behalf. You share your pet's page yourself and follow the rules of the places where you share it.

Rewards

You may record a reward privately. We never show a reward amount on a public page or flyer. Whether a reward is offered, earned or paid is between the owner and the other person. Lost Pet Network does not hold, pay, guarantee or decide disputes about rewards.

Tags

Collar tags with a QR code are optional. The service works without one. Each tag carries a random code that opens a pet's page once the tag has been claimed. A tag works only if someone scans it, so it is a help and not a guarantee, and it does not replace a microchip, a license or any identification your local law requires. When tags go on sale, the price, delivery and return terms shown at purchase will apply in addition to these terms.

We do not promise that the service will run for any particular length of time. If it ever winds down, we commit to keeping your data exportable in a documented format and to handing the imlo.st domain to a nonprofit or animal shelter so that tag codes can keep resolving.

Disclaimers

The service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, Lost Pet Network makes no warranties, express or implied, including that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that information posted by other users is accurate. Use your own judgment and take sensible precautions before meeting anyone.

Limitation of liability

In plain terms: we built this to help, but we cannot take on the risk of everything that might go wrong around a missing pet. To the extent the law allows, Lost Pet Network is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, for the loss of or harm to a pet, for the conduct of other users or third parties, or for anything that happens when people meet in person. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and 100 US dollars. Some places do not allow some of these limits, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

Ending your use

You can stop using the service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms or if we need to protect other users, animals or the service.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas. This does not take away any consumer protection that the law where you live says cannot be waived.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We will change the date at the top of this page and tell account holders by email if a change is significant. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the new terms.
